About Michael Voss
Michael Voss was one of the most respected players of the modern era. A three-time premiership captain with the Brisbane Lions' during their dominance of the competition in the early 2000s, Voss retired last year with 289 matches under his belt since his debut for the Brisbane Bears in 1992. Voss was a co-winner of the Brownlow Medal in 1996 (along with James Hird), a five-time All-Australian and captain of the Lions since 2001. Voss's thought-provoking and respected columns will appear regularly in The Sunday Age.

Code of silence
A new footballer must learn that freedom of speech has little place in the AFL.

The top eight for this year is set in stone. Port Adelaide's final-quarter capitulation against Carlton last Sunday confirmed the demise of the 2007 grand finalist, and ended the race for the finals.
Lions open window of opportunity
It's the core that determines a window of opportunity. Brisbane's
is all quality.
Dogs will put bite on less-than-hungry Hawks
THE bounce-back factor is a powerful weapon in AFL footy. And it's the main reason I'm tipping the Western Bulldogs to beat Hawthorn in what shapes as a battle within the battle to become the No. 1 challenger to Geelong.
Fears over a player exodus are unfounded
The new Gold Coast club will need draft concessions not uncontracted players to build a competitive playing list.
Young rucks hit the big time
Carlton's Matthew Kreuzer and the Brisbane Lions' Matthew Leuenberger are big and they're about to get really big.
Brown is the best
When Jonathan Brown is at his best, nobody comes close. Brown at his best has a presence and an impact nobody can match.
The only challenge to Geelong is Geelong
Coastal retreat an ideal home
A Gold Coast team will be costly, not to have one will be a costly mistake.
None for all and all for one
Too many St Kilda players want to be the star when they should be sacrificing their egos to help their club win a flag.
Interchange evolution
In a game that is ever-changing, every action causes a reaction.
Rejoice in Robert Harvey
Every player is entitled to chart his own course on the subject of retirement.
Those Magpie grand final scars still exist
Collingwood faces a potentially defining moment tonight; a chance to escape the clutches of the Lion.
The changing face of footy
Just because a coach develops a great list doesnt mean he can deliver a flag.
Victory is sweet proof of hard work
Football is great because it encapsulates so many great things.
Judd's journey east creates plenty of intrigue
The deal that will be done to secure Chris Judd holds as much interest as his destination.
