The Kangaroos have spoiled Geelong's first appearance at Skilled Stadium this season with a 16-point victory.

The Roos were much harder at the ball throughout the game and more willing to throw bodies into the contest and were rewarded with a second successive win, 18.10 (118) to 15.12 (102).

The Cats got to within 10 points in the dying stages of the game, but Daniel Wells' snap just before the siren sealed a deserved win, which leaves both sides with 2-3 records.

The victory capped a huge turnaround from the Kangaroos' previous trips to Geelong as they were beaten by 69 and 85 points in their past two visits.

Rover Brent Harvey booted three first-quarter goals to kick-start the Roos, captain Adam Simpson was prolific with 41 disposals and the unheralded Michael Firrito and Daniel Pratt shut down dangerous Cats Cameron Mooney and Gary Ablett.

The Kangaroos' vastly superior attack on the ball helped them outscore the Cats six goals to two in the second quarter and they stretched that lead to 44 points with the first two goals of the third term.

Geelong lifted during an entertaining third quarter and fought back into the game before the Kangaroos' Blake Grima kicked a great goal late in the quarter.

The Kangaroos had winners all over the ground, in ruckman Hamish McIntosh, midfielder Andrew Swallow, half-back Josh Gibson and veteran defender Glenn Archer.

Firrito typified the Kangaroos' better desperation and creativity when he set up goals for teammates running forward from the backline.

In the first term he paddled the ball forward and into the path of Shannon Grant while in the next term he dummied a handball and gave off to Wells.

Midfielder Paul Chapman was the catalyst for Geelong's third-quarter comeback, first-year onballer Joel Selwood was good and Mooney at least finished with three goals despite having his colours lowered.

Jimmy Bartel and Cameron Ling also kicked three goals each for the Cats.
